Treatment description
Melasma is a common pigmentation disorder that causes dark or brown patches on the face. It occurs particularly on the forehead, cheeks, upper lip and other sun-exposed areas.
UV exposure plays an important role in its development and worsening. Because pigment-producing cells may remain stimulated to produce more melanin, treating only the visible pigment is often insufficient.
As a first step, existing pigment deposits may be treated with laser energy and then gradually cleared by the body. The aim is to reduce dark areas in a controlled way and help the complexion appear more even.
A long-term concept also takes renewed pigment formation into account. Treatment is therefore planned individually and is not directed solely at removing areas that are already visible.
A customised cream or dermatological skincare may be used as a third component. Active ingredients, application and treatment duration are defined during the medical consultation; consistent sun protection plays a central role.
Not every pigmentation change is automatically melasma. The skin is therefore assessed medically before treatment begins and a personal treatment plan is created.
